PICEANCE BASIN

Colorado's 6000-square-mile Piceance Basin is a massive fluvial system of sands and shales that geologists believe were formed some 70 million years ago. The Piceance Basin holds an estimated 300-plus trillion cubic feet of gas resource, and that estimate may grow as ongoing geological research reveals more about the overall shale formation. Operators have found this region to be among the most desirable for exploration over the next decade. Research results show the potential for the area's many natural fractures to contribute to higher initial production rates and higher ultimate recoveries.
