WOODFORD/ARKOMA BASIN

The Woodford Shale is estimated at more than 1200 square miles in area, and considered by geologists to be a world-class mid-continent formation, with potential resources of up to 2 trillion cubic feet of gas. The number of wells here has more than tripled over the last 4 years.

The Arkoma Basin includes the Woodford Shale in eastern and southeastern Oklahoma, and the Fayetteville Shale in western Arkansas. Wells in the Arkoma Basin range from 1,000 to 6,500 deep and statistics on estimated reserves are growing. While operators describe Arkoma as being in its infancy, experiences learned in the geologically-similar Barnett Shale provide an important framework for shale-gas drilling and completions that is being leveraged by operators here.
